It was the steam in Penko Skumov’s image that immediately captivated me — it lends the photo a mystical, surreal quality. The position of the sculpture‘s feet, balancing on a sphere, expresses strength and skill, and it‘s fascinating to imagine what the upper part of the figure might look like. I therefore tried to portray the charisma and symbolic power of the entire figure, as I imagine it, on a metaphorical level: the boxing glove and the victory sign as symbols of strength; the toilet plunger, on the one hand, as a continuation of the sphere and, on the other, as a disruptor, to show that strength can also have a trivial level. And the smoke as the connecting element between the two photos.
