I specialise in unposed, spontaneous street photography. My work is almost exclusively captured while traveling abroad, shot alongside the participants of my workshops. As I typically spend the end of August at home, I knew that participating in this project meant my family would have to be the subject.

Receiving Ana’s conceptual collage was an unexpected surprise. I must admit, the image felt more like a challenge than an immediate inspiration; at first, I was at a loss for how to respond. However, because her collage featured hands so prominently, I decided to start there — focusing on the hands and gestures.

While visiting cousins on the other side of Poland, I found myself constantly documenting our days with my phone. Since it was always with me, it became the perfect tool for spontaneous family photography. It wasn‘t until I returned home and reviewed the files that one frame stood out: a simple, quiet moment from a day trip to Czechia, of my daughter walking with her cousin in a park.

While the hands in Ana’s collage seem to be reaching out in space, my photo captured the moment they finally met. I realised that my original plan to focus on hands had materialized naturally — the ‘reach’ in her work found its resolution in the simple, unposed gesture of two young cousins holding hands.
